The Hospital Bag Checklist!

Dare to Birth

We get asked this question all the time—and for good reason. As your due date approaches, packing your hospital bag is one of those tangible things that can make everything feel very real. It’s a moment of preparation, anticipation, and nesting all rolled into one.

While hospitals typically provide the basics (like diapers, mesh underwear, and a few toiletries), having your own carefully chosen items on hand can make a big difference in how supported, comfortable, and grounded you feel during your stay. And it’s not just about packing for the baby—your support team and you will need essentials, too.

Whether you're a first-time parent wondering where to start or preparing for another birth and looking to streamline your bag, here are our go-to recommendations for what to bring—for you, your support team, and your baby.

For you and your support team:

  • Birth Plan (multiple copies)
  • Comfort measure options: massage tools, aromatherapy, speaker for music, battery operated tea lights, wooden combs, scarf for belly sifting
  • Comfort item options: comfy clothes, pillow or blanket, eye mask, socks, slippers
  • ID/wallets
  • Insurance cards
  • Clothes and toiletries for you and your team!
  • Phone charger
  • Entertainment (Laptops, Ipads, books)
  • Drinks and snacks!
  • Camera

For Baby:

  • First outfits
  • Car seat
  • Feeding supplies (breast pump, bottles, formula, etc.)
  • Blankets/swaddles
  • Diapers and wipes (the hospital offers these as well)
